I like a drink.
So do most of us.
Some of us enjoy it too much.

Some of us do not enjoy it at all.

Whatever the case, Australians pay some of the highest tax rates in the world when it comes to booze.
One day, after paying almost $80 for a case of one of my favourite yuppie, Byron Bay beers, I decided to look into one of the main culprits - the tax man.
The ATO kindly puts all of the excise rates on their website, but as usual, fails to provide some sort of generic calculator for it.
This is my attempt at making one, verified using the limited examples on the ATO site.
This isn't a statement for or against a high alcohol tax.
Supporters will point to revenue generation, managing the social costs of alcohol (its contribution to the strain on healthcare, plus its prevalence in accidents and crime).
Detractors will point to demand price inelasticity, the regressive nature of the tax, the fact their wallets are hurting already with high inflation and its potential encouragment of the ingestion of other, cheaper, nastier substances.
Whatever the case, my wallet hurts.
Yeah, nurries. Buy me a beer.
Here's my 'hub too, for the nerds.
